Big Ol'Boys At Rally of the Giants 2002

Despite the usual threat of rain the land yachts turned out in numbers at Knebworth. Some new cars appeared, which were a treat. Certainly this is the best event in the UK for pre 70's classic American metal, however there is a but. The but is, that this event is becoming boring. Cars in lines, in a field, no trade stalls worth a light, the worst examples of 70's and 80's bad US cars and a laid back approach that is verging on the comatose. Come on the Pre 50 auto club get your act together. Take a leaf out of popular events such Hemsby and get some life back into this event.

Saddest Sight of the Day: The guy in the new Cadillac insisting he was let into the classic parking area, even the boy scout on traffic control recognized that this was wrong

Best Sight of the Day: Big Jim and the boys cooking up a barbeque under the trees, just when we thought no one was coming. Although everyone seemed to have left their cars at home, preferring to pile in the back of a transit to reduce the entrance fee.

Big Ol'Boys At Billing 2001

What is it about car events that attract the rain?. If you were at Billing on Saturday you won't need us to tell you about the rain. Sunday was better, but still had an artic feel to it. We think the owners of the classic yanks which attended should be congratulated on making the effort.

We wonder how much more mileage in these type of events. These events need to find a venue with hardstanding, if they want to attract the best cars. In our opinion the inclusion of cars from the late 70's and upward are starting to further undermine the attraction of this event. We don't think there is much crossover from owners/admirers of the classic chrome laden land yachts of the fifties and sixties with those from the later periods. We need an event that better represents these classic cars, there's a thought for the winter.

Another gripe is the "trade stalls" these shows now attract. Somehow flower pots, cuddly toys and bedcovers have nothing to do with American cars.

Big Ol'Boys At the Rally of the Giants 2000

In the middle of the Monsoon season! the rains stopped just long enough for the Rally of the Giants at Knebworth. The Big Ol Boys were out in force. Big Al was there trying to sell old record players and radios, his only taker was Chevy Paul. Perhaps this had something to do with Franny appointing herself as the sales lady.Pete was there with the 57 Chevy. Even Graham made the trip in the Skyliner. Packard Bob was amazed to find another Packard, an even more amazed when he realised that this Packard was minus its original engine, because he had acquired it some years ago! We all enjoyed the day, no breakdowns, no rain, roll on 2001.

Big Ol'Boys At Billing 2000

Big Ol'Boys were out snapping at Billing. Unfortunately we suffered from too much sun. As a cure we then retired to the beer tent, where we then suffered from too much beer. This caused an afternoon attack of full scale sleeping. Still what a great weekend. Is it me or are the trade stalls generally a waste of space? Anyway here are our favourites from the weekend

Big Ol'Boys at Hershey '99

The Boys were out at Hershey 99. If you've never been stop making excuses an go!. You will never see more classic american motors in one place. However you will have to walk miles to see everything, including all the autojumble, they reckon 30. Well we saw everything! If only we could stop Jim looking in original boxes at N.O.S we'd have done it in half the time. Please if someone can explain why Ralph flew all the way to America to buy 3 foot long bolt cutters we could save his therapist fees. Packard Bob spotted bargain pair of tail lights for the Packard for $250. Graham walked the full 30 miles to find nothing for the Lincoln, however as he wasn't wearing his glasses whose to know if he missed things. The snaps below are from in and aroud the car corral, so all these cars were for sale.
