Big Ol'Boys go smart and wear Ties

Why wear the same old tie that everyone else does when you can wear spectacular ties from the Forties and early Fifties. Bright colours and innovative designs brightened up post war America. The phenomenon of that was the Forties tie did not really get going over here in Europe where the brash look was out of tune with post war austerity. Geometric, Wild Life, Abstract and Tropical are all themes for ties. A huge number of manufacturers produced vast numbers of ties: Wembley; Regal; Windsor and Pilgrim are amongst the most commonly surviving brands.

So rummage in your attic or check out the vintage clothes dealers, brighten up your office by wearing a vintage tie. However despite rumours to the contrary wearing these ties will not have the ladies swooning at your feet.

The most collectable of ties are those designed by Salvador Dali. Typically surrealist subjects appear on these ties. Don't be suprised to pay a few hundred pounds for the rarer designs.
