The Big Ol'Boys and Rods

Wheels Day 2002

Wow, what a kick off to 2002. The sun came out and so did the cars and the crowds. Brooklands was heaving, and the show parking area was full. Many new projects crept out from their winter garages. This year we're keeping score of the outings we get to, so Chevvy Paul and Packard Bob score one apiece. The rest of the gang score a big zero, or claim they were there but missed us due to the large crowds. Chevvy Paul is now sorely tempted to trade in the old '57 and get himself a rod. However he is known for the extended thinking time required to come up with a final decision, expect news in 2003. Trying not to repeat ourselves these are the cars that we liked, and we hadn't seen before.

Billing 2001

The weather was kind, encouraging a good turn out. All the usual suspects were there. We've tried not to repeat cars featured elsewhere, but if they're good why not. There are still too many Pops, Anglias and Prefects for our taste. Why go for 70's retro? Still the quality of the rods improves every year.

Caterng note: complaint from Chevvy Paul: no Thai food stalls. What was that stall selling Kangeroo, Ostrich and other novelty meat all about. Still fatboy tried them all and gave them the thumbs up.

Brooklands April 2001

A few rods turned up to the Brookands American car event. Chevvy Paul was more interested in going on for a curry and a beer, so not many photos!

NSRA Hot Rod Supernats at Knebworth

The sun shone and the crowds were out in force for Knebworth. We copped out of the full nostalgia thing preferring to travel to the show in modern comfort. Hiding our cars in the trees, to hide our embarrassment. I blame our other halves, who decided they'd join us. We wandered round bumping into a few old friends. Pete "the anorak" disappeared with Chevy Paul as they slowly inspected each and every car in minute detail. The day is just too short if you spend 15 minutes on each car. Bubba tried to eat as much as he could from every food vendor (and we've got the photos to prove it). One Packard Bob got over excited spotting a 55 Packard for sale, watch this space for details. When you've wandered enough there's always the beer tent. Is this the best car show of the year? Possibly.

Billing 2000

We've been out and about at the NSRA meet at Billing snapping our favourite Rods and Kustoms. Billing was a mud bath, but still everyone had fun. Bubba got well and truly stuck in the mud, not that we helped him get out. He deserved it after walking round the fields being extremely picky about everyone else's cars.
